Letter from the Lord Mayor of Munich to EU commissioner Neelie Kroes for the promotion of open standards in office communications
The President of the Association of German Cities and Towns and the Lord Mayor of Munich, Christian Ude,
sent a letter to the Vice President and EU Commissioner for Digital Agenda, Neelie Kroes, asking her to keep
up efforts for the promotion of open standards in office communications and free open source software.
In his letter, Mr. Ude highlights two specific measures that need to be taken for the implementation of the EU projects at the local level:
- a) It is desirable that all documents are provided both in MS Office and in open document formats.
- b) All presentation notebooks used in EU organisations and networks as well as in EU projects are to be equipped
with OpenOffice or LibreOffice as an alternative to MS Office.
