An international event, "Open Source
Usage and Impact in Public Administrations: towards a more efficient
Europe" which will be host by the city of Badajoz during the 1st and 2nd
December.
This event is promoted by the European
project OSEPA (Open Source Software Usage by European Public Administrations)
and organized by FUNDECYT (Extremadura Foundation for the development of
science and technology).

This event is promoted by the European
project OSEPA (Open Source Software Usage by European Public Administrations)
and organized by FUNDECYT (Extremadura Foundation for the development of
science and technology).
Free software is an emerging trend in
European administrations. In fact, its use has been consolidating relentlessly
in recent years in the administrations of member countries of the EU due to the
strategic advantages it offers. The interest lies in its flexibility,
technological autonomy and optimization of public resources. It means greater
sustainability, ultimately. Nowadays, Extremadura region is a synonymous of
good practice in the use of Free Software among public administration due the
constant work approaching the Digital Agenda priorities.
In this vein, the OSEPA Project wants to open
an international debate counting on one hand, the concerns of those responsible
for local government, and other personal experiences with international experts
in the field. This will be primarily aimed at the Conference.
The conference will be attended by
delegations of the European public institutions (municipalities, federations of
municipalities, universities, etc..) by at least 12 European countries, plus
regional and national institutions from organizations promoting free software
and public institutions will also participate.
